“The factors that architects address when designing a hospital or a clinic are the medical department adjacencies, access control, in-patient and out-patient segregation, ergonomics, wellness-illness segregation and a sustainable design concept, Ajay Gupta, Executive Director, Kgd-Architecture told Pharmabiz in an email interaction.
“Hospital design has changed drastically in India in the past decade. The clinical advancement in healthcare has placed India’s benchmark on par with western counterparts, although we still have to address our local needs. The healing environment and wellness approach are imminent in a hospital design. It has helped architects shift from a sterile white clinical design to far more eye-catching creations. In the present scenario, hospitals are like hotels where patients the guests seeking clinical support,” he added.
In the hospital design space, interiors are a key driver. The need of the hour is to move away from the clinical look and a feel of a hospital to a warm and hospitable ambience that indirectly helps in the healing process. Therefore architects need to gather the critical information of the design brief, which helps in a smooth path towards a successful project, said Gupta
While there is far more acceptance to modern design concepts offering convenience by the private healthcare providers, some steps have been taken by central and state governments to upgrade the new projects which is still at a snail pace ,he pointed out .
